Leftovers — Shape Collection Posters

Leftovers is a pair of posters created from shapes inspired by five different collections of objects. The five collections are plastic bottles, piles of candy, kitchen appliances, fish, and bubbles. Each collection is depicted with its own visual language and is combined in a way to talk about the effects of discarded objects, like trash, within the environment.

Shape Collections

I started the project by finding each collection. Each started as 10 images of similar items. I then traced and recreated each item. I choose to depict each collection in a different visual style in order to emphasize how everything in the posters were originally found objects.

Sketches
After creating the collections of shapes, I made thumbnail sketches for the two posters. My plan was to tell a story between the two compositions. The first poster depicts a more zoomed out view of the ocean with more natural blues and greens and an emphasis on the landscape. The second poster zooms in on the reality of the ocean with more orange and yellow to emphasize how everything in the depicted environment is unnatural.
